Dad's surgery update

My dad's surgery went well, it seems! The doctor is encouraged. My dad is just limited in what he can do and eat for the next few days and was given a nice prescription for Vicodin. Or hydrocodone, which is the generic name for that. (I never knew that. I thought they were two separate painkillers.) Apparently, the pain that seems immense right now will actually get much worse by days three through five. What kind of craziness is that? I guess it will take a little time to know if the surgery actually worked. He claims that when he fell asleep earlier, he woke himself up with his snoring (which the surgery is supposed to stop even if it doesn't cure the sleep apnea), but my mom & I had gone out so we don't know. I have to say, despite undergoing a two-hour surgery, he already seems remarkably more awake today than he's seemed in a long long time. I always attributed his constant catnapping to the fact that he often gets only 4 hours of sleep each night but maybe this sleep apnea thing has some credence.
