"It's Official: Disney Joins Hulu"

This is the best TV news I've heard in awhile! I was going to post about it a month or so ago when it was just a rumor but this is even better! I watch a lot of TV online and Hulu has, by far, the best platform for watching shows. I rarely have loading problems or picture problems when I'm watching Hulu and I cannot say the same for the ABC/Disney platform. Plus, the ability to queue videos, to set subscriptions so the newest episodes automatically queue, to embed videos or parts of videos (whatever parts you choose!) into your web site or share with others via email.... there are really a zillion things to love about Hulu and since I do watch a ton of ABC or ABC Family shows, it will just be great. The other small benefit here is that while all the platforms show short ads, with Hulu it automatically connects back to the program after the ad. The current Disney platform requires the user to "Click to Continue," which is kind of a pain in the butt. I just hope with all the added programming (and presumably users), there won't suddenly be viewing problems. (via)

Big Sports Weekend

It was over 90 degrees this weekend - way too hot for April - so I spent some of my time indoors watching sports! The NFL draft was on and I eagerly awaited the Browns pick at #5... which they promptly traded away for pick #17. Then, when it was time for pick #17, guess what? They traded that away for #19. And then, when it was time for #19, they traded it away YET again. Finally, at the 21st pick, they picked Alex Mack, a center from California. A center? Bor-ing!

More exciting news was that the Cavs won their playoff series against the Pistons in a four-game sweep. It was pretty much no contest the entire series and now they get at least a week off while the other series battle it out. I tell you, it's so strange to have a team that is the #1 seed, that is dominant over other teams and is basically expected to win. A team from Cleveland doing that? Seems so wrong.

In other weekend news, I went out to dinner on Friday night, saw a movie with a friend on Saturday and ran some errands (including a trip to Wegmans!!) on Sunday. Very exciting stuff. I also have a persistent cough. I hope it's not swine flu.

Work Happy Hour

I organized a work happy hour since we haven't had one in a few months (I think January was the last one) and for awhile had been doing them once a month. Throughout the day, it seemed like more and more people were telling me, "Oh, I can't go now" so I expected a paltry turnout but we ended up with 8 people over the course of a couple hours. Out of 24 employees, I don't think that's too bad. Comparing it to the librarian happy hours we organize, where we also often get 8 people, it's actually fantastic. I mean, the librarian happy hour pool is at least a couple hundred.

I Want One: Zip-It Necklace

How cute are these zipper necklaces? I really like them, but I wonder how much Au$50 translates to in US$? Also, you know how you can catch your skin in zippers and it hurts like hell? Will that happen with this necklace? (via)

Drenched!

I got so wet walking home from work today (well, from the subway stop). I saw the storm coming and was hurrying home to avoid it but I was still about 5 minutes away when it started pouring. Yes, I did have an umbrella, but the puddles formed so quickly that my shoes and the bottom of my pants got soaked. Yuck. At least I was heading home, though, and could change when I got there.

There was a huge package waiting in the lobby for my roommate when I got home. It was long and skinny, maybe 7 feet long. I thought it was skis. Normally, I might bring it up to our apartment so it doesn't get stolen, but there was no way I was going to drag this thing up there. Does that make me a bad roommate? I don't care, though, because I despise my roommate.

Go Cavs!

I'm so excited now that the NBA Playoffs have started. Basketball is my favorite sports and it's especially exciting that the Cavs are pretty much a favorite to head to the Finals, if not win it all. All kinds of accolades are heading their way, including Coach Mike Brown being named NBA Coach of the Year yesterday! Yay! LeBron is considered a shoo-in for the MVP award and here's a great article on why.

Anyway, Game 2 against the Pistons tonight. Go Cavs!

Happy April!

I really don't post much on my blog anymore, do I? Well here's three recent happenings...

#1 - I got my laptop! Yes, in fact, I'm using it right now. It came early, last Tuesday. However, it wasn't without some drama. I checked the tracking info and it said "Item delivered!" Except, no it wasn't delivered. I checked all over the office and it was nowhere. So I called FedEx and the woman seriously said, "It was supposed to go to 4350 and it went to 4250; is that the same place?" Umm, no, no it's not. But luckily the FedEx guy corrected his mistake before the day was over and I walked home with my brand new, shiny, pretty laptop. I've been using it and enjoying it, especially because...

#2 - I've been sick. Yeah, yuck. Just major congestion, making breathing difficult and giving me an awful, awful headache. Allergies are very very common here so everyone asks me if I was sure that it was a cold and not allergies but I'm pretty sure it's just a cold. I mean, I could possibly develop allergies but I've never had them before and here we are like 72 hours after I started feeling sick and I'm already feeling better. I don't think allergies go away that quickly do they? Anyway I did miss two full days of work (in an already short week!) but feel much better as I type here. Thank God for Mucinex D.

#3 - Work has been pretty busy but in a manageable way. They sent me to Chicago last week for two days so it's always fun to get out of the office (although I won't deny that the traveling probably contributed to me getting sick). Even though we really only hung out by O'Hare, a coworker & I stayed an extra night to head downtown. We were going to see Second City but things didn't work out so instead we hit a nice restaurant next door and then walked around Rush Street.
